Edgerton Village is looking for a new street superintendent after the person who used to hold the job resigned.

The village council interrupted its Nov. 7 meeting to meet in executive session to determine how to pay the benefits due David Brobst and to approve advertising the opening. Brobst’s resignation was effective Nov. 6.

Brobst will be paid accrued sick pay, vacation pay and compensation through Dec. 2.

The council declared an emergency and approved both measures so they would take immediate effect. Keith Winebar was appointed as interim street superintendent and will be paid $17 an hour.

In other news, the council:
Set the date for a third meeting in December for the 28th at 6 p.m. The council will finalize business for 2016 and goals for 2017.

Approved a change in the allocation of wages for Shawn Clifton, income tax clerk and administrative assistant to be split between five line items.

The village switched to RITA to handle the income tax collection in September and has used the interim period to see what changes have been made to the work Clifton does in the office, Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles said.

“We found about half the time she works with income tax,” Fitzcharles said. “The other half she’s working with utilities, collecting payments, she helps in the Fisca Office with filing and she does projects for the office.

“She’s moving into that support role so I asked council to approve that wage distribution so I can budget for it”

Approved a contract with Altec Industries to purchase a new bucket truck for the Electricity Department for $188,502. The state approved the purchase. The state comes in once a year to review the finances of the town and its five-year plan.

The truck was part of the Electricity Department’s capital improvement plan from the previous year. The legislation is just a formality, Fitzcharles said.

Upcoming events:
There will be donuts and hot chocolate with Santa at the Parkview Nursing Center beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 3.

The Edgerton Chamber of Commerce will host horse-drawn sleigh rides with Santa from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 16 in the village.

The chamber is also sponsoring a Christmas Light Contest for residents and businesses. The sleigh ride route will be designed to go by all the entries in the contest.

Many businesses will be open late for an open-house atmosphere and for last-minute shopping. The high school junior class parents will be providing hot chocolate and cookies as a fundraiser.

Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated house and business. The residential prize will be a family pass to the summer homecoming concert and the business prize will be a sponsorship package for the concert.

If you’re interested in decorating a house or business for the Christmas Light Contest, please contact Dawn Fitzcharles at 419-298-2912, or Dawnf@edgerton-ohio.com

Sleigh rides with Santa is slated for 6-8 p.m. Dec. 16 as part of the downtown Holiday Open House. Businesses will remain open into the evening. The sleigh ride route will also go past entries in the Christmas light contest.
