Elementary School Report
Sixth grader Aryssia Brown won the Principal of the Day contest by selling more than $1,000 worth of Yankee Candle products.

She spent a day shadowing Principal Kermit Riehle and taking on several duties such as morning announcements, lunchroom duties, emailing her staff, visiting the classrooms and helping Mrs. Landel with the Elementary School newsletter.

Riehle said Brown was “a joy to spend time with because of her sweet, caring personality.”

Third-grade teachers and Riehle are awaiting results of the English Language Arts test administered to students in November. The results will help determine which students are ready for fourth-grade reading levels.

The teachers and Riehle will sit down with psychiatrist Chanda Swank to write up an improvement plan for each student as the school gets ready for the Spring ELA.

As with last year, the students will be taking the Iowa alternative assessment in addition to the Spring ELA. Any student who failed the fall test can be promoted to fourth grade if they pass the spring test of the Iowa test.
