The Lyons Village Council met for its regular session on Monday, February 9, 2026. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and then routine business before members welcomed newly sworn-in council member Jimmy Thornton.
Council turned next to infrastructure planning and voted to authorize Verdantas to complete and submit the application for the WRSLA program as part of funding and loan efforts connected to the village water tower project.
Discussion followed regarding the proposed vacating of the right-of-way on Kennedy Street and West Street, with council voting in favor of the action.
Administrative matters were addressed when it was reported that the current contract with Xerox will expire in March. Village administrator Tanya has signed a new agreement with Dex Imaging to continue office equipment services.
An update was also provided on the Lyons Farmers Market, which will relocate to Lyons Community Park this season due to water tower construction. Organizers are working on music, food vendors, and activities for children to expand the Farmers Market event.
Legislative items continued with the third reading and vote on the cybersecurity ordinance, followed by the third reading and vote on the water rate increase ordinance. Both measures completed the required voting process.
Council also announced that the village bulk trash pickup will be conducted door to door on May 16, 2026.
Public works concerns were reviewed, including a broken water meter on South Adrian Street. Tanya reported that she met with TMACOG and University of Toledo students on Friday, February 6, to begin an assessment project for the village as part of the students’ capstone coursework.
This is the first time the students have partnered with the village in this manner, and TMACOG will assist afterward with pursuing Safe Routes to School grant opportunities.
Utility updates included a notice that TTHM testing will take place during the week of February 9 through February 13. The village is also working with Hylant and Conrad Beck on the annual renewal of village insurance, effective April 1.
Staff discussed sewer concerns in the Cleveland Street and Fulton Street area. They also reviewed a hardship water situation on County Road DRS in coordination with the Fulton County Health Department.
Additional planning included the upcoming FCEDC annual meeting scheduled for April 14. Officials are obtaining pricing for a new handheld unit used for reading water meters, noting that the current device is 12 years old and no longer holds a charge reliably.
Council voted to approve a resolution requesting information from the county auditor regarding the renewal of the tax levy, which is to appear on the November ballot.
With nothing further, the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held on March 9, at 7:00 p.m.
