Swanton Library Announces Upcoming Schedule Of Events

Thursdays, January 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Intro to Yoga. Join us for a series of yoga classes taught by Aimee Strohbeck. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing for easy movement. No experience necessary. Class fee is by donation with proceeds benefiting the library.

Thursdays, January 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Chair Yoga. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat is required for this class.

Mondays, January 9, 23, and 30 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Beginning Yoga. This class is slightly more advanced than the Thursday morning yoga class, offering students an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing. There will be no class on January 2 or 16.

Mondays, January 9, 23, and 30 from 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm – Evening Yoga. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing. There will be no class on January 2 or 16.

Mondays, January 9, 23, 30, February 6 and 13 at 4:30 pm – Music & Movement. Music and movement are tied together with literacy in this family series on Monday afternoons. Sing, dance, play instruments, and read! Focus is on preschool and early grades, but the entire family is welcome. Free!

Tuesdays, January 10, 17, 24, 31, February 7 and 14 at 10:30 am – Storytime. Weekly classes offered at Swanton Library for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Children will read to the beat through stories, music, and crafts. Free. No registration required.

Wednesdays, January 11 18, 25, February 1, 8, and 15 at 4:00 pm – Storytime. Weekly classes offered at Swanton Library for children ages 1 to 5 years. Children will read to the beat through stories, music, and crafts. Free. No registration required.


Wednesday, January 11 at 4:30 pm – Board of Library Teens (BOLT) meeting. New members welcome!

Thursday, January 12 at 7:00 pm – Adult book discussion led by Marty Kaback. This month’s topic is the thriller Inferno by Dan Brown. Copies are available at the front desk.

Monday, January 16 – The library is closed in observance of the holiday.

Tuesday, January 17 at 6:30 pm – Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees meeting. The annual organizational meeting will be held at 6:30 pm, with the regular business meeting to follow. This is a change from the regularly scheduled date and time. The public is welcome to attend.


Wednesday, January 18 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm – Anime Club for grades 6-12. This month, we’ll celebrate the New Year with a few traditional Japanese new year foods and games and watch three episodes of anime chosen by the attendees. Participants are welcome to come in cosplay, anime or otherwise. Free!

Thursday, January 19 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Astrologer Janet Amid Returns. Astrologer/life coach Janet Amid will be back at the library this month to talk about astrology, her work, and the fresh start we each have in 2017. Come join us for this fascinating presentation!

Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 am – Clifford Celebration for grades K-5. Celebrate man’s best friend at the library this month! We’ll read Clifford the Big Red Dog stories, play dog games, decorate Clifford cookies, and meet a real live assistance dog! Register online, at the front desk, or by phone.

Thursday, January 26 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Cardmaking. Our ongoing series of cardmaking classes with instructor Anna Geis starts up again in January with some wonderful cards expressing love. A $5.00 supply fee covers three cards. Children 8 years and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required; please call us at (419) 826-2760, come in, or visit our website.

Thursday, February 2 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Intro to Guitar. Is learning to play guitar on your “someday” list? Come to the library to get a brief, non-stressful introduction to the guitar from our own Adam Walter. This program is free but registration is required. Please bring a guitar if you have one.
