The Williams Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) would like to congratulate Bob Short on recently receiving two outstanding awards in Columbus during the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation District’s (OFSWCD) Annual Meeting. First, Bob received the ‘Academy of Conservation Leadership’ award. Bob was one of two to be the very first graduates from the OFSWCD Conservation Leadership Academy. The Conservation Leadership Academy, a joint effort between the OFSWCD and Ohio State University, was started four years ago for SWCD board supervisors to increase their leadership roles in the State of Ohio.

Bob was also awarded the OASWCDE 2014 President’s award for Outstanding Board Supervisor. This award is presented each year to two outstanding board supervisors in Ohio – this includes 88 counties and 440 supervisors. The award was given to Bob for his outstanding contribution in strengthening and promoting the conservation of our natural resources by providing assistance, information, and representation and by supporting the efforts of all conservation districts.

Bob is a dynamic supervisor. The Williams SWCD exists today in a large part because of the dedication and hard work of Bob Short. In 2012, when the Williams SWCDs budget was cut to zero, Bob was instrumental in a levy committee by promoting the District at every turn. By May of 2013 the citizens of Williams County showed their support of the Williams SWCD by passing the levy. Through it all Bob inspired everyone with his usual light-hearted, positive and optimistic outlook. He also attends and supports every event the district hosts and, as always, welcomes everyone as only Bob can. He is always willing to help, support, and guide each employee and especially the District with his vast knowledge and personal experiences in life.

Bob’s leadership ability and outgoing personality inspires one to succeed. It is reassuring to have someone so versatile to ask for help and ideas and know that the guidance being given is bursting with enthusiasm and experience. Bob and his wife Peggy live in rural Alvordton (Millcreek Township). Bob is a current member of the Williams County SWCD Board of Supervisors where he has served as a member for the past 9 years and as Chairman for the past 6 years. He is also serving as a Director on the OFSWCD, where he is currently Chairman of Area 1, representing Williams, Fulton, Henry, and Lucas Counties. Bob is respected and admired for all that he does for conservation and for his leadership abilities. We are very proud of Bob and all his accomplishments.
