Clinton Township Trustees, in partnership with American Legion Post 265, celebrated the placement of a brand-new American Flag and pole at the Clinton Township Building.

Located at 5736 County Road 15-1 in Wauseon, the Clinton Township building is the local government building for Clinton Township.

Township Trustee Ivan Hite explained that many months ago during a township meeting, Fiscal Officer Nancy Yackee suggested the addition of a new flagpole.

It was decided then that, due to the building being used for government purposes, it would make sense to have a flag installed. The hope was to place the flagpole right out front for visibility purposes.

Following the meeting, contact was made with the American Legion. Post Commander Bill Pursel liked the idea and thought the issue of a public building without a flag needed correcting.

The idea was then brought up to the Legion Board, with a decision being made to fund the project in its entirety. A donation was made in the amount of $5,000.00 to pay for the project.

Trustee Hite spoke and thanked the American Legion for their support. “We are here to honor those from the American Legion and to make sure the public knows they are active and a part of the community.”

“We are wanting to see America great again in the honoring and flying of the American Flag. It deserves everyone’s respect, and it is something we should do as citizens,” said Township Trustee Hite.

With the project being funded in its entirety through funds donated by the American Legion Post 265, no taxpayer money was used.

Commander Pursel explained that this was done in order to get the flag up where it belongs, while also keeping taxpayer money available to be used in other ways.
