Dalton Surbey and his mother Nicole Streeter, of Montpelier, were special guests of the American Legion Dept. of Ohio 97th State Convention in Toledo, Ohio this past weekend. On Saturday morning, Dalton was presented the American Legion Dept. of Ohio Civilian Life Saver Award for his actions on February 14th of this year, where he was credited with saving the life of Duane Ward during a multi-car accident on Ohio Rt. 576 during a sudden winter white out, by Dept. Commander David Hilliard in front of the nearly four hundred gathered delegates on the convention floor.
Mr. Surbey, in his usual manor, humbly accepted the award which read: “Civilian of the Year, Presented to Dalton Surbey by the Law and Order Committee of the American Legion, Department of Ohio for Outstanding Achievement and Sincere Interest and Concern for the Welfare of Others in the State of Ohio.
