Annual Corn & Soybean Day Program Set At Sauder Village

The annual Corn & Soybean Day program is scheduled for Friday, January 22nd at Sauder Farm and Craft Village’s Founders Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Optional CORE & Category 6-Fumigation sessions for pesticide applicator credits will be available from 3:45 to 5:15 pm). The program has a variety of speakers and nearly 30 exhibitors sharing information on management practices for the 2016 crop production season. Attendance at this year’s Corn/Soybean Day will fulfill the 3 hour requirement for private pesticide applicator recertification and the 2 hour Ohio Fertilizer Applicator Certification & Training (FACT) required for those with a pesticide license.

Topics for the day include:
Managing Soybean Cyst Nematode in Ohio
Terry Niblack, Chair OSU Plant Pathology Department

Water Quality and Phosphorus Management
Kevin King, USDA-Agricultural Research Service

New Herbicide Tolerant Traits and Weeds Update
Mark Loux, OSU Weed Science Department

Nutrient Management for Forage and Pasture
Allen Gahler, OSU Extension Educator, Sandusky County

Improving Yield & Water Quality with Nitrogen Timing
Ed Lentz, OSU Extension Crops Specialist, Hancock County

In addition, exhibitors from seed and input suppliers, banking, crop insurance, grain marketing and the machinery industry will be on site to share information about products and programs.
The following continuing education credits for pesticide applicators are offered throughout the day:
*Private: 3 hrs including Core and Categories 1, 2 & 6
*Commercial: 3 hrs including Commercial Core and Categories 2A, 2C, & 2D
*Michigan: 3 hrs
*Certified Crop Advisors: 4 hours total credit including IPM, NM, & SW

Pre-registration, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and materials is $35 and should be postmarked by January 13th. At the door registrations are $60 and available on a limited basis. Basic Spreadsheet Applications for Agriculture Class Offered
OSU Extension will be offering a class on Basic MS Excel © Applications for agriculture on Wednesday, January 6th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Robert Fulton Ag Center, 8770 St. Rt. 108, Wauseon. The course will be for those who have limited or no experience with spreadsheets such as MS Excel ©. Content will cover formatting cells, basic formulas and inserting simple graphs/charts, all while using agricultural examples. Participants are required to bring their own laptops with MS Excel pre-loaded (ideally, version 2007 or newer). No computers will be provided. Cost of the course is $10, payable at the door.
