The Archbold German Township Fire Department has remained a cornerstone of the community, consistently providing critical emergency services with unwavering dedication.

The department has reported a steady call volume, with over 80% of calls being EMS-related. Despite a slight decrease in fire call numbers, the increase in EMS call numbers has ensured that the overall call volume remains within expected parameters.

This increase in call volume can be attributed to the community’s strong industrial base and the presence of an expansive retirement community. The department comprises a total of 35 members, including five probationary volunteers who have joined in the past year.

Embodying the spirit of service, these volunteers are in various stages of their certification process and bring a refreshing energy to the department.

As a combination department, the Archbold German Township Fire Department showcases a unique model, with EMS services contracted through the county and fire services provided by dedicated volunteer responders.

These volunteers are required to be certified in both EMS and Fire, enabling the department to maintain flexibility in responding to a diverse range of emergency calls.

The department has flourished thanks to the unwavering support of the community. Actively participating in events and programs throughout the year, including 5K runs, providing EMS staffing for various community events, and engaging in Fire Prevention Week programs, the department reciprocates the immense support it receives from the community.

What truly sets the department apart is its commitment to upholding the high standard of service set by its retired members. Embracing this mind set, the department consistently strives to deliver the best possible service to the community.

While serving on the department demands a significant time commitment, the members are united by their profound desire to give back and serve their neighbors in times of need.

Additionally, interaction with the community during Fire Prevention Week has remained a cherished highlight for the department.

The joy and excitement of the younger members of the community when they encounter the department’s personnel, and the fire truck serves as a heartwarming reminder of the positive impact the department has on the lives of the community’s residents.

Reflecting on the department’s role, the Chief of the Archbold German Township Fire Department expressed deep gratitude, summing up the sentiments in a single word: “Blessed.”

This sentiment encapsulates the mutual respect and support that flows between the department, the community, and the local authorities.

When everyone involved shares a common vision of providing unparalleled fire and EMS services, the department’s mission becomes more than a duty; it becomes a collective blessing for the entire community.

The Archbold German Township Fire Department stands as a testament to the power of community and the unwavering commitment of its members.

Their dedication and passion continue to foster safety, support, and hope within the community, making them true hometown heroes.
