Archbold Jr. ACME Baseball State Runners-Up

The Archbold Jr. ACME baseball team had lofty expectations when tournament play began. The Blue Streaks were looking to add to four straight appearances in the state semifinals. They would begin with Districts at Tinora High School. After an opening round win over Montpelier 16-0 the Streaks then defeated Antwerp 2-1 in the winner’s bracket final of this double elimination event. With Antwerp emerging out of the loser’s bracket, Archbold would have to defeat Antwerp one more time for a berth in the state tournament. The Blue Streaks took care of business with a convincing 9-0 victory over the Archers. Next up for them was a best of 3 matchup with Defiance to determine who would be the #1 and #2 seeds at the state tournament in St. Henry. Defiance won the first two of the series 11-0 and 9-0 thus making Archbold the #2 seed. In the quarterfinals, Archbold knocked off defending state champ Minster by a score of 10-1, putting them in the state semifinals for the fifth straight year. In the semis, the Blue Streaks were a 3-0 winner over the host St. Henry to advance them to the state finals. Awaiting them in the finals were the Defiance Bulldogs, a team they had already faced seven times this summer. After falling behind 11-3, the Streaks attempted a rally by scoring five runs in the 7th inning but came up short 11-8. The Archbold Jr. ACME team finished the season with a record of 22-10.
