Ever since her early years, Ava Genter wanted to be Fulton County Pork Queen, and this year, she got her wish.
Genter, daughter of A.J. and Kisha Genter and resident of Archbold, was crowned last month by the Fulton County Pork Producers after initially applying in May.
“I have looked forward to the day I would be eligible to run for Fulton County Pork Queen since I was a little girl,” Genter said. “When the applications came out this spring, there was no hesitation I wanted to apply.”
Genter grew up on a third-generation hog farm helping her father. She has been involved with 4-H for nine years and FFA for six, currently a part of the Pettisville Ever-Ready 4-H Club, Pettisville FFA, Fulton County Junior Fair Board, and Pettisville Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
During her near decade of experience showing swine, she has earned such recognition as outstanding market hog exhibitor at the county level as well as overall barrow showman, overall gilt showman, outstanding swine market exhibitor, and outstanding swine breeding exhibitor at the Ohio State Fair.
She has also served as a Legends and Livestock Swine Mentor in Fulton County as well as Breaking Boundaries Special Needs Hog Show Mentor and Battle for the Bacon Legislative Swine Show Mentor at the state fair.
Genter is also a member of the National Junior Swine Association member, show participant, and leadership conference participant, as well as winner of the organization’s leadership conference scholarship.
“Beyond raising swine, the connections I have made and experiences I have been blessed to have, have allowed for endless opportunities unlike any other.”
“With these personal experiences I strive to use this platform to help others on a journey that has made one of the greatest impacts in my life,” Genter said.
She will get the opportunity to do just that as she represents her crown at the Fulton County Junior Fair pig show, local parades like the Wauseon Homecoming Parade and Fayette Town Festival Parade, Fulton County Ag Fest, other county fairs, and at meetings of the Fulton County Pork Producers. Genter will also compete at the Ohio Pork Queen contest.
She said she feels “extremely blessed and honored to be able to represent a major industry within the rich tradition of Fulton County’s production agriculture.”
Genter will be a senior at Pettisville High School this fall and plans to attend Kansas State University and major in agricultural communications.
