Debbie, the daughter of Bryan natives Dick and Mary Lue Phillips, spent most of her childhood in Montpelier, Ohio. She was an excellent student who had a love of writing, and during her high school years wrote…
Alcohol compliance checks performed in Fulton County throughout the summer turned up disappointing results. Twenty-four Fulton County businesses were checked for illegal liquor sales by the Ohio Investigative Unit (OIU), a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, with one business being checked twice. This countywide sweep resulted in twenty instances in which minors were denied the sale of alcohol and five instances of minors being served alcohol. During the compliance checks, a trained informant under the age of twenty-one attempts to purchase alcohol while an officer waits in an outside area away from view of those inside the…

Imagine being a kid and going house to house to “Trick or Treat?” (Maybe some of you still do) You are excited about getting dressed up, putting on the costume that your parents purchased, you purchased, or maybe someone special made it for you. You grab your candy sack, and with great anticipation you run out the door into the neighborhood to fill up that bag! You approach the first house; your heart is beating rapidly; you ring the doorbell and as it opens you nervously shout, “trick or treat!” The person at the door is holding a big bowl,…

The Pettisville Blackbirds were joined by Skylar Lantz of Fayette, Brady Livensparger of Hilltop and Luke Graber and Dean Beamont of Stryker at the Tiffin event…the doorway to the State Finals in Columbus. Unfortunately for the local harriers, that door was slammed in their faces, bringing their quests for the capitol city to a close. Lantz led the locals to the line with a 24th place finish, with Graber placing 33rd and Livensparger 37th. The Pettisville team finished…
TIFFIN – The D-III District event at Liberty Center was tough on the local ladies, paring down the large contingent to just two. On October 27, those two survivors, Madeleine Routhier of Hilltop and Sabrina Brown of Edon took their skills to Tiffin for the D-III Region 10 Regionals. Unfortunately for the local ladies, they found the Regionals more inhospitable than the Districts. In her first year at the Varsity level, Routhier finished out of contention in 24th place, while Brown, in her final tour of duty as an Edon Lady Bomber, placed 58th and out of the running for…
DEFIANCE – The 2012 BBC and D-IV Sectional Champion Edon Lady Bombers opened the D-IV District competition on October 23, with Cardinal Stritch on the other side of the net. Stritch earned their trip to the District by mowing down the competition at the Archbold Sectionals, and on this night that momentum carried them a step further as they wore down the Belles in Bomber Blue in four sets, 25-23, 25-21, 19-25 and 25-16. In Stritch, the Lady Bombers found a team that executed the fundamentals as well as themselves, and the first two sets were examples of that parity.…

EDON – Way back in 1985, the Chicago Bears used their first round draft pick to draft a defensive lineman out of Clemson by the name of William Perry, a.k.a. ‘The Refrigerator’. As a longtime Green Bay fan, I recall quite clearly Mr. Perry lining up in the backfield in front of Walter Payton, taking the handoff from Jim McMahon, and literally flattening Packers’ linebacker George Cumby on the way to scoring a touchdown. Behind their two-way celebrity, the Bears went on to crush the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX. Those defensive lineman types make for impressive battering…
