Through a partnership with the community, the Pioneer Branch Library is getting a new storage shed. The Village of Pioneer donated labor and shared the cost of concrete for the new shed. The Pioneer Friends of the Library donated $500 towards the storage shed cost, and the Williams County Public Library paid the remaining cost of the project. Lenore Irene Yoh, 84, of West Unity died Monday November 26, 2012 at Hillside Country Living. She was born on February 14th 1928 in Madison Township near Kunkle, Ohio to Samuel Christian & Ethel Mae (Barrett) Zehr. Lenore attended Kunkle High School and graduated in 1946. She married V. Floyd Yoh on March 15th 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1981. Lenore’s number one priority was providing for her family and being there for her husband and children. Ohio unemployment rates showed a slight drop during the month of October coming in at 6.9% compared to 7.1% in September. While Williams County dropped slightly to 6.8% in October, Fulton County dropped a bit more from 6.5% to 6.2% from September to October. Statewide the number of unemployed workers dropped by 10,000 from 406,000 to 396,000. This amounts to an annual decrease of 88,000 from the October 2011 figures. It is also a decrease of 1.4% as October 2011 unemployment rates were at 8.3%. Fulton County remains locked in at 50th place in the county ranking report but Williams…

That was the day her best friend Tiana Bishop lost her battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Hilltop Schools provided a unique and exciting lunch for students K-12 on Tuesday November 20th. Bringing together Ohio State Buckeye Fans and Michigan Wolverine fans the cafeteria was the place to be. As part of this activity the lunchroom added to the experience with a team based lunch of O-H-I-O Hotdog, Brutus bean dip, Touchdown Tostito’s, Bo Banana’s or Schembechler strawberries, Buckeye’s for dessert and Maize Milk. Blakeslee Village Council met November 18 at 3 PM in a special meeting to discuss personnel and to pay some of the village bills. To begin the meeting Fiscal Officer Beth Rediger informed Council that she had notified the local paper, The Village Reporter of the meeting and the purpose of the meeting 24 hours in advance per Ohio’s Sunshine Law. Beth Rediger was hired on a part-time basis to serve as the fiscal officer for the village of Blakeslee. Rediger currently serves as the fiscal officer for the village of West Unity and was contacted by Blakeslee Mayor Linda Muehlfeld to see if she would consider taking the Blakeslee job as well. During their Monday, November 19th meeting, Hilltop’s school board voted unanimously to begin the process of placing a renewal levy on the May ballot. The levy being replaced expires in Tax Year 2013 so it will continue to be collected through 2014. “To get it so there’s no lapse in collecting the funds we need to pass the levy in the next year,” said Treasurer Traci Thompson. “We really want to stress that this is not new money. Plans are in place to bring a football program to North Central Schools. The board heard from Craig Meyers of the Football Committee who described the project in detail, and gave figures and estimates on the cost of the project over the next five years. The committee is made up of Pioneer residents who would like to see a football program brought to North Central Schools, and who are accepting donations to make that project a reality. Meyers estimates that it will cost between $200,000 to $250,000 to get the program started, and estimates a cost of $150,000 per year…

Ada Virginia Starr, 97 of Montpelier died peacefully Thursday afternoon in her home. She was born on May 13, 1915 in Butler Indiana to Oscar Isaiah and Addie Elizabeth (Frick) Miser. Virginia graduated from Montpelier High School in 1933. Virginia was a homemaker for her entire life. She was a member of New Beginnings Church (formerly Central United Brethren) in Montpelier. Lewis A. Stantz, 77 of Montpelier died Saturday night at his home. He was born on April 21, 1935 in Kunkle to Neri and Hazel (Severence) Stantz. He was a Kunkle High School graduate.
