Baseball/Softball Roundup For May 20th

VARSITY BASEBALL

Division IV Sectional Finals

Montpelier 4 Hicksville 0

Blake Altaffer fired a complete game two-hitter and struck out 15 as Montpelier (19-5) advanced to the Division IV district semifinals with a 4-0 shutout of Hicksville. Montpelier was able to score their runs on just one hit as they took advantage of eight errors by the Aces. The Locos will face Ayersville in the district semis on Wednesday in Bryan.

Antwerp 6 Edon 1


Luke Krouse and Austin Lichty combined to allow just one hit and recorded 15 strikeouts to lead Antwerp past Edon 6-1 in a sectional final. Cole Vasquez accounted for Edon’s (7-19) only hit and RBI on the night with a solo home run in the second inning.

Ayersville 4 Edgerton 1

Edgerton (12-16) led 1-0 after four innings before the Pilots scored twice in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to pull out a 4-1 win. Warren Nichols, Cole Meyer, and Kale Merillat were each 1-3 for the Bulldogs.


Regular Season

Fayette 9 Stryker 6

Tanner Wagner went 2-4 with an RBI and Shane Maginn tossed a complete game as Fayette (4-16, 2-10 in BBC) ended the season with a 9-6 win over Stryker. Payton Woolace and Joseph Ramon each were 2-4 with two RBIs for the Panthers (0-15, 0-12) in the loss.

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Division II District Semifinals

Lima Shawnee 12 Bryan 4

Shawnee jumped on Bryan with three runs in the first inning and scored four more in the fourth to help them pull away for a 12-4 win. Bryan, who ends the season with a record of 22-4, was paced at the plate by Bre Long who had two doubles and an RBI.


Regular Season

Stryker 14 Fayette 2 (5 innings)

Laura Leupp and Sage Woolace went deep and Haylee Fulk had three hits with five RBIs to lead Stryker (6-12, 5-7 in BBC) to the win in five innings. Emmalee Fulk added two RBIs for Stryker and Caitlyn Lyons tallied three hits. Kyla Berg topped the Fayette (0-17, 0-12) hitting as she singled, doubled, and knocked in a run.
