PIONEER – In a pitcher’s duel to open the Buckeye Border Conference baseball campaign, Montpelier avenged an earlier loss to North Central as the Locos posted a 1-0 shutout victory.

The Locos (3-1, 1-0 BBC) scored the only run of the contest in the third inning on an RBI single by Hayden Sharps, scoring C.J. Fidler, who had reached base earlier with a single.

Wesley Hartsock was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit in the complete-game victory with eight strikeouts.

Jackson Poynter collected the lone base hit for North Central (1-3, 0-1 BBC).
