Blakeslee Village Council discussed its vacant council seat at its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 1.

In attendance were council members Nick Reed, Robert Mohre, Virgil Green, Linda Muehlfeld, and Shelly Cox, along with Mayor Eric Jenkins and Fiscal Officer Courtny Osborn.

With the recent passing of council member Rosemary Alexander, the discussion centered around finding her replacement on the council.

Osborn told council members the 30-day window to fill the vacated council seat had already expired.

She told them they could now vote with only five council members, but they could also conduct a meeting with four council members until a replacement is found.

“Let me just make sure that’s okay, or there has to be some resolution passed or something,” pointed out Osborn. “If you (council) are okay with that, then I’ll look into it.”

Council approved the monthly financial report for September. Receipts totaled $2,437.60 with payments in the amount of $1,258.64.

It was decided that the village will be having Trunk or Treat activities for the first time this year. This will take place on Thursday, October 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall. There will be flyers posted throughout the village promoting the upcoming Halloween event.

Council was also reminded of the upcoming Big Trash Day on Saturday, October 18, in the village.

Linda Muehlfeld updated her fellow council members on the upcoming “Christmas in Blakeslee” parade, highlighted by the appearance of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus on Sunday, December 14.

The parade lineup will form behind St. Joseph Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m., followed by the parade at 6:00 p.m. There will be refreshments served, and live music played in downtown starting at 5:00 p.m. that day.

The meeting was then adjourned at 6:25 p.m. The next council meeting is on Wednesday, November 5, at 6:00 p.m., in Village Hall.
