Nick Ramos, who guided Montpelier to its best boys basketball season in school history, was chosen as the Division VII coach of the year by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association.

Ramos led the Locomotives to a record-breaking 24-3 season in which they reached the regional finals before bowing to eventual state runner-up Kalida.
Besides finishing as regional runner-up, the Locomotives also achieved more history in winning an outright Buckeye Border Conference title (7-0 record). It was also the school’s first outright league crown since the 1955-56 season when they won the Northwest Ohio Athletic League title and the first district title since 1946.
Earning first team All-Ohio honors in Division VII was Montpelier’s C.J. Fidler. The 6-2 sophomore who has already surpassed the 1,000-point milestone, averaged 22.4 points per game.
Two other area players, Jack Leppelmeier of Pettisville and Briggs Gallehue of Edon, were named to the Division VII second team.
A three-time Buckeye Border Conference player of the year, the 6-2 Leppelmeier, who ended up as the second all-time leading scorer in school history, averaged 22.9 points per game this season.
Gallehue (6-4, senior), who became the seventh player in Edon history to score over 1,000 points in a career this season, averaged 20.4 points per game.
Receiving special mention honors in Division VII were Will Donovan of Stryker and Zack Whitley of North Central.
