BOYS DISTRICT WRESTLING: Wauseon & Delta Win District Championships

The grapplers from Wauseon drove into Norwalk Trucker territory looking to capture trips to the Schottenstein Center on The Ohio State University Campus.

The Indians had eight wrestlers punch their ticket for Columbus starting with Carter Stuckey at 106 as defeated Heath Norris from Clyde to take third place.

At 113, Joseph Lugabihl took home third after defeating Harrison Bohls of Napoleon, 5-3 with Zavian LaFountain (120) also grabbing third after defeating Mike Thomas from Madison Comprehensive 7-2 in his placement match.


Antonio Torres (132) continued the run of bronze medal finishes for Wauseon with a 3-2 win over Ben Jacobs from Bellevue in the third-place bout followed by Jordan Cook at 138 who knocked off Bellevue’s Konner Dauch, 3-0, for third.

Wauseon would get their first champion of the day at 144 pounds with Benicio Torres who beat Zach Gerber (Celina) 9-0 for a major decision win.

The Indians would get two more state qualifiers as Ian Martin (165) placed fourth and senior Austin Kovar finished as runner-up at 190 pounds.


Also placing for Wauseon was Ben Tule who grabbed an alternate spot by taking fifth at 215, while Kahle Albright (150) and Kale Waxler (157) who each took sixth in their division.

The Bryan Golden Bears would get a placer at 175 pounds with Dameon Wolfe as he wrestled his way through the consolation brackets to take sixth place.

The Delta Panthers continued their dominant season by qualifying eight wrestlers for the state tournament as they edged out Milan Edison for the team title in Division III at Rossford.

Starting things off for the Panthers was returning state champion Adam Mattin who waltzed through the 113-pound division, culminating with a pin of Scott Fuller (Genoa) in the final.


Delta picked up top four finishes in the next two weight classes with Tyler Barnes (120) defeated Cameron Wagers from Plymouth by fall and Richard Flores was third at 126 after beating Qwintin Howland (Ashland Crestview, 2-0.

Evergreen picked up their first state qualifier at 138 with senior Jack Stubleski taking third after a 4-2 win over Antonio Salazar of Gibsonburg.

The 114-pound division saw the Archbold Bluestreaks take a district championship as 52-1 senior Brodie Dominique pinned Landon Roeder (Monroeville) in the first period and Delta also had a qualifier in the division with Landon Lintermoot taking fourth.

The next two weight divisions would also produce state qualifiers for the Panthers as Parker Cone (150) and Lane Lopez (157) both placed fourth.

Delta would earn another spot at state with Connor Sintobin (190) finishing second after falling to Xander Myers of Liberty Center, 5-0.

Evergreen would get a second state qualifier thanks to Grant Richardson’s third place finish at 190 while at 215, Archbold’s Wyat Ripke was runner-up and Cass Chiesa of Delta was third.

The final area state qualifier came in the heavyweight division with a second-place finish by 44-7 junior Evan Smigelski from Swanton.

The OHSAA State Wrestling Championships will be held March 8-10 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
