The Bryan City Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the BCS Field House.

The session, open to the public for conducting school district business, included a designated time for community participation, and no community participation was on the agenda at this meeting.

The meeting began with a roll call. Present were board members Ben Camarillo, Debra Opdycke, Dustin Schlachter, Caleb Turnbull, and Lynn Wieland.

Superintendent Mark Rairigh and a few members of the community were also in attendance. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the board approved the minutes from the April 14, 2025, regular meeting.

The Board of Education spotlighted the High School Ceramics Program; a presentation highlighted the program’s achievements, showcasing student creativity and skill in ceramics as part of the board’s communications segment.

Mr. Knotts and student Ian Knotts displayed a few unique ceramic pieces from the class and art shows and talked a bit about the ceramic/art program.

The treasurer’s recommendations included monthly financial reports, amended permanent appropriations for FY25, a five-year forecast and assumption, and a healthcare process consulting agreement for FY26.

Financial highlights also included the authorization to advertise for repairs to the Field House roof, which sustained hail damage, participation in federal programs and grants for the 2025-2026 school year, acceptance of the milk bid, a contract with Michael Kinder and Sons, Inc. for the Career Technical Education Center, and an automated logic contract for MS/HS Addition services in FY26.

Superintendent Rairigh gave his administrative recommendations, which included recognizing the Class of 2025 graduates contingent upon completion of required studies and approving the 2025-2026 K-12 Student Handbook, Preschool Handbook, and Athletic Handbook. Additional approvals consisted of the NWOESC Mentor Program 2025-2026 and the FY26 School Psychologist Internship Agreement with the University of Toledo.

Personnel recommendations included a four-year limited contract for Joy Saneholtz, the resignation of coach Josh Neilson (effective June 30, 2025), and the hiring of new staff members Samantha Molina as a 6-12 Science Teacher (effective May 28, 2025) and Breana Reilford as a 5th Grade General Education ELA teacher (effective August 1, 2025).

Classified staff transfers included Dayton Keller and Angie Lemons to new roles (effective August 1, 2025), alongside summer education staff appointments and non-renewals of spring coaches 2025, and 2024-2025 academic supplemental contracts for non-certified staff. New fall athletic coaches for 2025-2026 were also approved.

The Bryan Board of Education meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m. to enter into executive session.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at BCS Fieldhouse, with graduation set for Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the HS Gym.
