The Bryan Board of Education met on May 7th at 5 p.m. Present were board chair Karen Ford, board vice chair Annette Schreiner, and members Jim Salsbury, Dick Long, and Bob Eyre.

They first moved to approve the minutes from their April 16, 2024 meeting as written before moving on to pass a resolution recognizing the American Water Association’s National Drinking Water Week May 5th through 11th, which just so happens to land on the 50th anniversary of the USDA’s 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act.

A new compensation plan and philosophy, first implemented in 2016, is going to be updated, with wage surveys and studies going to be conducted throughout the upcoming weeks.

The agreement was reviewed by litigator Marc Fishel before being presented to the board, with it being shared that the new plan will aim to keep the board competitive in today’s labor market.

Mr. Long shared that it’s time for the update, and that “things have really changed since” the plan was passed.

Discussion was held on how too much time has passed since the plan was last updated, with other companies conducting annual salary surveys before the agreement was approved.

The 17th edition to APPA’s safety manual was officially adopted and implemented to show their commitment to an injury-free workplace. The 16th edition was adopted in 2018, and the new edition sees an update in standards and revision to rules.

A motion was then made to pay the bills as presented before it was shared that a “hacktivist” fact-sheet has been published by the United States Department of Cyber Security.

Everyone was reminded to drink water during National Drinking Water Week before the compliment shared at the Bryan City Council meeting on the notice left prior to construction beginning was reiterated, and the board members voted to adjourn the meeting.
