It took just ten minutes for the Bryan City Council after going through a light agenda at its meeting Monday night in the council chambers.
Following the Call to Order at 5:30 p.m., council members in attendance were Mary Leatherman, Richard Hupe, Jim Kozumplik, Steve Alspaugh, and John Betts.
Also in attendance were Mayor Carrie Schlade, Clerk-Treasurer John Lehner, Police Chief Gregory Ruskey, Parks and Recreation Director Ben Dominique, City Engineer Brian Wieland, and Steve Moore of M&M Asphalt.
After the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, council then made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 21 meeting.
Steve Cox, a Huntington Drive resident, addressed the council regarding the pavement work that was started last week, but it was shut down due to mechanical problems with the equipment.
“I noticed there was maybe 100 feet of single lane road (that) received tar and gravel,” said Cox. “Two of my neighbors did get tar sprayed in their front yards again. Are we going to get notification when the equipment is repaired?”
Schlade responded to Cox’s concern, “I have no idea, at this point, we need this equipment and need to get the job done. We’re coming at some point, hopefully sooner or later.” The mayor added that Huntington Drive is in a low-traffic area of the city.
“Some of our priorities have to be whether there are more cars, more trucks, more consistent traffic coming,” pointed out Schlade.
“That is the city engineer’s priority, that he has a limited budget that he can use every year. That budget is gone over with me, with the clerk-treasurer, and with the council.”
“So, we have to pick and choose where things are just maintained and where things are redone. Your street for a while is going to be maintained with this process. That is just the way it’s going to be.”
In other action, the council approved an ordinance accepting the requested annexation of a parcel of land consisting of 1.84-plus acres in section 21 in Pulaski Township.
Approval was given authorizing the clerk-treasurer to issue a change order regarding the West South Street sidewalk project.
Council then authorized the mayor to enter into a contract with Bryan Excavating LLC for the Waterline Replacement Project on the 700-900 block of East Mulberry Street. The motion was approved.
Construction will begin in April 2026, and the completion date is set for June 2026 for the project.
Prior to approval, Wieland told council members the city was successful in obtaining an Ohio Public Works Grant, which will cover 50 percent of the project costs.
Motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
