BRYAN CITY COUNCIL: Council OKs Rules & Regulations For Refuse Collection

The May 2 Bryan City Council meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. All five board members, Jim Kozumplik, Richard Hupe, Judy Yahraus, John Betts and Mary Leatherman, were in attendance.

First, the city council began by approving the April 18 meeting. Next, council approved Ordinance 27. providing for annual appropriations worth $149,448.34.

Council then approved Ordinance 28, for a transfer of funds worth $50,637.34. Next, council approved Ordinance 29, involving annual appropriations for the City of Bryan.

That was followed by council approving Ordinance 30, This enables clerk-treasurer Laura Rode , according to the agenda, “to execute an authorization letter with the Regional Income Tax

Authority for the purpose of administration and collection of municipal income tax in the city of Bryan…” This will be a follow up on the non-filers.

Next, council approved Resolution 27. A waiver was approved for Airmate Company, involving the installation of water lines to the Airmate Company.

Council then approved Ordinance 31, which amends Sections 953.01-953.99 of Chapter 93, involving refuse collection of Bryan’s Codified Ordinances.

Here, according to Ordinance 31, Bryan City Council “authorized the dissolution of municipal refuse collection and authorized refuse collection by an outside contractor.”

Next, involving a building permit, Four County will be taking over the old Farmers and Merchants building and remodeling it.

Council then approved of postponing and moving the next city council meeting to Friday, May 20.

Of note, both Terri Bayless and Naomi Kaiser announced that they are retiring.

In council comments, Yahraus and Betts both emphasized the importance of getting out to vote.

Betts also gave thanks to Airmate, Four County and mentioned that Four County superintendent Tim Meister will be retiring and that he is an outstanding human being.

He also thanked the American Legion for their donation to the Bryan Parks and Recreation.

Council then voted to adjourn the meeting.
