PRACTICE TIME … The Bryan team consisting of (left to right) Nole Carpenter, Trae Krebs, Philip Berry, Addalynne Jesse, and Paige Lyons get some practice in.
The Bryan High School Esports, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team competed in their first match of the regular season today against New Bremen High School.
For those unfamiliar with SSBU, it is a brawl/fighting style game where the goal is to knock your opponent off stage and doing so causes them to lose 1 stock (life).
Bryan, like many Ohio schools, is part of the E-Sports Ohio (ESO) league. In the ESO, Smash Bros. follows the rules of a crew battle competition.
Each team fields four players and each player get a stock of 3 lives. Each game is played 1 vs. 1 with the winner of that game carrying their remaining stocks into the next game against the next player of the opposing team. This continues until all four players on one team have lost all 3 stocks.
Overall, the match is played in a best of three rounds format with scores reported as the number of stocks taken from the opponent.
Last week, Bryan lost in the match against New Bremen with Round 1 ending with a score of 2-12 and Round 2 ending with a score of 9-12. Competing for Bryan were Trae Krebs, Philip Berry, Nole Carpenter, Addalynne Jesse, and Paige Lyons.
Nole led the team over two rounds with 5 total stocks taken with Philip winning a total of 4 stocks. Bryan’s next match will be Wednesday, September 25th versus Tri-State STEM+M starting around 3:30pm.
