Center Township Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, June 16 with trustees Ryan Muehlfeld, Julie Davis, Matthew Grube, and Terry Collins in attendance. Cemetery sexton Kurt Roan was also present.
Trustees made a motion to approve a quote from Snyder Brothers Construction of Ney to install an additional door on the Burkholder building at a cost of $7,549.
“It was under our threshold, so we didn’t have to bid it,” said Grube.
The other improvement involved the township hall building as Clear View Tinting of Toledo was awarded a bid of $1,052 to tint the front windows of the building.
Trustees were updated on the upcoming chip and seal work on township roads this summer.
It was noted that the township has ordered 1,000 tons of stone for Ward Construction of Leipsic to do the chip and seal work which will cover 5.4 miles of roads.
They will be doing the work on the township’s three cemeteries, along with Krohn Street and County Road 8 this year.
Zoning inspector Todd Burkholder updated the trustees on an issue concerning non-domesticated animals.
It involves a township resident who has several chickens on his property and was asking for specifics in the township’s zoning laws about it.
“I would say this is just an opinion that we say we’re not using anything from the zoning,” said Grube. “We’re using what the Ohio Revised Code says that you can’t have it.”
Grube added, “It’s not a fight with us, and if we send a letter and he (township resident) wants to hire an attorney, his disagreement is with the State of Ohio and the Revised Code.
“We are just enforcing what the revised code says and we’ve got to move forward with this.”
The trustees went into an executive session to discuss an insurance matter with no action taken. Next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 7 at 8 p.m.
