The smell of coffee and the sound of laughter filled the air at the recent “Coffee with Cops” event.
Donuts, coffee, games, and crafts were all available at the Montpelier Town Hall Pavilion on August 2. On an almost perfect morning, guests were welcomed in with a station offering coffee, water, and donuts, all provided by the Montpelier Civic League.
Behind the welcome station, at the pavilion, kids were excited to try on helmets, provided by the Williams County Health Department, and learn about bike safety with a provided flyer.
Teenage employees of the Parks and Recreation Department had temporary tattoos and several crafts set up on the outer edge of the pavilion.
The Williams County Public Library provided foam cutouts to personalize, like a butterfly or a bike flag, as well as providing handouts for upcoming library events.
Behind the pavilion on the lawn were games like Kanjam, Giant Jenga, and Giant Connect Four. A vibrant collection of bikes, ready for the upcoming trail ride, stood parked on the lawn beside the pavilion, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Parks and Recreation employees were on site to provide instruction or an opponent for each game. Officers and kids alike could be seen holding their breath, hoping the tower wouldn’t fall during a rousing game of Jenga.
Once properly geared up, guests were invited to join the police department for a trail ride along the Iron Horse River Trail. Smiles could be seen on kids and adults alike as they pedaled down Jonesville Street, headed for the trail.
The “come-and-go” event, running from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., gave guests plenty of time to enjoy everything—from coffee to trail rides.
