Learn from the WISDOM of the martial arts Legend Bruce Lee, who taught that being like water means being adaptable, formless and open to change.
“Be water, my friend” Empty your mind. Before formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a tea pot, it becomes the tea pot.
Now water can flow, or it can crash. “Be water, my friend”. Water is the medium for life. Essential to digestion, circulation, and everybody function it can program sizes about 70% of the human body and covers a similar proportion of the surface of our planet.
Water figures prominently in every spiritual tradition. Water is the master cleanser of the body and soul and is often used as a blessing and a purifying element in spiritual practices.
Medicinal teachings in the East and the West agree on the fundamental importance of water– without it, life is impossible. In eastern terms water is purifying– it brings LIFE FORCE energy to the body and cleanses us of waste and toxins.
The removal of impurities allows the body to function more efficiently. In western terms, water regulates all bodily processes and helps the body to extract nutrients from food.
Without enough water food becomes a dry mass in the gut that the body finds difficult to break down. In the presence of sufficient water, however, the food swells and individual cells burst open to release their nutrients easily, avoiding dehydration.
In many ways, WATER is the forgotten nutrient. Although you drink enough water to survive, you may not be drinking enough fluid to keep your body adequately hydrated.
You may be in a permanent state of sub-optimum hydration without realizing it. If you urinate infrequently and suffer from fatigue, lethargy, irritability, dry skin or mouth, headaches, or constipation, the chances are you’re not drinking enough water.
A good guide is the color of your urine. It should be pale yellow – if it is darker amber, you need to increase your fluid intake. Ideally, you should urinate at regular intervals throughout the day – not just once or twice.
Aim to drink two liters of water a day. Fluid intake should be increased during hot weather, when you are taking part in a vigorous exercise or if you become dehydrated as a result of vomiting or diarrhea.
Children, who tend to be more active than adults, can lose a lot of water through the skin. The average two-year-old should drink at least one pint a day.
The best way to keep the body hydrated is to drink plain water. If you find it unpalatable to drink plain water, you can enhance the taste using natural flavoring such as root ginger, lemon, lime juice or fresh mint leaves.
Thirst is a useful reminder to drink, but it is not a very adequate indicator of your body’s true fluid levels. By the time you feel thirsty your body cells and tissues are already in serious need of water.
A better approach is to drink before you feel thirsty- this way you keep your body topped with fluid all the time.
If possible, spring, purified or mineral waters are the best choices. My greatest hopes and prayers are that we can all share and encourage each other to live a happier and healthier more vibrant life.
