4th Place Delta FFA Gold WEB(WAUSEON, OH) Fulton County SWCD hosted the Area 1 Envirothon on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 4-H Camp Palmer in Fayette OH, 43521. Delta FFA Gold and Wauseon FFA No. 1 placed 4th and 5th, respectively, out of 58 teams. This year’s theme was “Urban/Community Forestry.” With an increasing amount of people of all ages becoming more educated and involved in activities to protect and promote our natural resources, this event allows students to study and learn about environmental opportunities.

The Envriothon is a multi-disciplinary, environmental problem-solving program culminating in a series of annual competitions. 58 teams of five high school students (grades 9-12) trained and competed in the area of soils, wildlife, aquatics, forestry and current issues. The top teams may move on to compete at the regional, state and national levels.

The Area 1 Envirothon included teams from the counties of Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Lucas, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Wood, and Wyandot. The first-place winner was Wynford Blue from Crawford County; second-place winner was Fort Jennings Team No. 1 from Putnam County; third-place winner was Sylvania Southview Team No. 1 from Lucas County.

In Ohio, the Envirothon continues to grow as more and more high school students take the opportunity to display their knowledge of the environment. Ohio’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts sponsor five Area Envirothons each year and welcome new high school students to join in this exciting and rewarding educational experience.
