BRYAN (MAY 15, 2023) – Corinne Cape’s two-run double put Edgerton on the board in the first and Alivia Farnham ended the game with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fifth to send the Bulldogs to the district finals after the 10-0 win.

Edgerton’s big first inning started with Lola Giesige being hit by a pitch, Casey Everetts drawing a walk, before Cape lined a double to center to bring in the first two runs of the night for Edgerton.

After a couple strikeouts by Montpelier starter Bianca Phongphiou, Ella Miler reached on an infield single that led to a Loco error which allowed Cape to score and make it 3-0.

Cape struck again in the second inning with two Bulldogs aboard via walks, this time off Madelyn Hopper who took over in the circle for the Locos.

The sophomore doubled again, scoring Jewel Cheek who entered the game as a pinch runner for Olivia Wallace who opened the inning with a walk to increase the margin to 4-0.

Edgerton added two more runs in the inning on wild pitches as Giesige (reached on a walk) and Cape would come around to score on wild pitches and make it 6-0 after two innings.

Montpelier’s best scoring chance came in the third on a single by Kaycee Humbarger and a walk issued to Kelsie Bumb would put two on with one out.

Cape escaped the inning though by inducing a pair of ground balls that resulted in force outs to end the frame.

The fourth inning saw Edgerton put two more runs on the board after a walk to Everetts and a single by Cape put two on the base pads for Edgerton.

After a Hopper strikeout, Ava Swank delivered with a two-out RBI single to center and Miler drove in a run with a single right field to make it 8-0.

Edgerton ended the game in the fifth as Wallace led off the inning with a walk and Farnham would send a shot to right field resulting in an inside-the-park two-run homer to secure the win.

Along with her three hits and two RBIs, Cape went all five innings in the circle allowing just four hits and racking up seven strikeouts.

Miler added three singles for Edgerton in the win.
