Fayette – Donna Mae Schaffner, affectionately known at G-Ma by her grandchildren, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon. She was 94.
Donna was born in Wauseon on November 13, 1927 to the late John and Ruby (Guilford) Neuenschwander.
She attended and graduated from Wauseon Schools; and then on July 20, 1946, she married Marvin Schaffner, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1994.
She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife her entire life. As such, she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family and would always cook for those who helped them farm and the deer hunters.
Her and her husband also enjoyed polka dancing on a weekly basis. Sewing and baking “lake cookies” were among her other pastimes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Denny (Elaine), Murry (Diane), and Jerry (Beth) Schaffner and Julie (Allan) Valentine; grandchildren, Kevin (Vicki) Schaffner, Jackie Rufenacht, Jason (Melissa) Valentine, Christopher (Dianne) Valentine, Kari (Kent) Roth, Andy Schaffner, Amy (Mike) Mueller, and Peyton Schaffner; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild along with two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Lowell (Velma) Neuenschwander; and a sister, Shirley (Elroy) Arps.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris (Earl) Baldwin.
Visitation for Donna will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home – Fayette Chapel, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Christian Taylor, officiating. Interment will be private at Pleasant View Union Cemetery, Fayette.
