Don’s Chevrolet GMC in Wauseon held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 2nd. The ribbon cutting was held for the new Hummer edition that was recently added to the dealership.
Don’s Chevrolet GMC has been in business under its current name for over twenty years. Previously Wagner Motors, the dealership has been a Wauseon staple for quite some time now.
Hummer was acquired by GMC back in 1999 from AM General. The brand continued up until its discontinuation back in 2010 following a failed sale to Tengzhong, a Chinese car manufacturer. Now, the brand has been reborn in an electric form.
Currently, the Hummer Truck Edition 1 is available for preorder. There will be four different trim levels, along with an SUV, with all being electric.
The truck itself has 1,000 HP and is able to travel from 0-60 MPH in just 3 seconds, which is impressive for a 9,000-pound truck.
Other capabilities include the ability to crab walk, and extract mode which raises the truck up an additional 6-inches.
Don’s Chevrolet GMC’s Dave Storrer explained that he was able to drive the truck on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last September, and that more EV’s are coming soon.
“We knew with the way things were going, Cadillac and Buick are wanting to be all electric in the near future, Chevy is coming out with an electric Silverado and Blazer, so we wanted to buy into the program to offer different options to customers.”
In order to be a part of the program, Don’s Chevrolet GMC installed a new electric vehicle charger on-site which is available for anyone to use.
An additional change took place in the form of a new lift capable for the heavy weight Hummer’s bring to the table. This is needed in order to service such vehicles.
The Hummer Edition 1 at Don’s Chevrolet GMC will not be able to be sold for another five months. Additional vehicles will be available for pre-order as time goes on.
“Customers could go on GM’s website and for $100 they can reserve one. The last time that was open they sold out in ten minutes.”
“Once Hummer gets their production numbers up and they start getting more to dealers, I think it’s going to be pretty exciting,” said Storrer.
