Duane King (1937-2021)

Duane E King, age 83, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Duane was a tool and die maker and co-founded HKK Machining in 1966. He had worked on the family farm growing up and had previously worked at Hayes-Albion.

Duane attended the Bryan Alliance Church and had been a longtime member of Clay Church near Kunkle. He was a member and past president of the West Unity Chamber of Commerce and West Unity Area Foundation member.

Duane’s passion was fishing, especially on his boat on Lake Erie. He spent as much free time as possible on the Lake. He also enjoyed working in the yard and tending his garden, reading and staying current on events and business news, watching college basketball and baseball, walking, bike riding and playing cards.

He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Duane E King was born on March 7, 1937, in Fayette, Ohio, the son of Ervin and Georgiana (Croninger) King. He was a 1955 graduate of Alvordton High School. Duane married Sharon Kay Stover on September 14, 1956 in Kunkle and she survives.


Duane is also survived by his daughters, Sheryl (John) DeGroff, of Bryan, Sheila (Mark) Bowers, of West Unity and Melody (Bruce) Burrowes, of West Unity and sons, Mike (Lisa) King, of West Unity, Matt (Misty) King, of Bryan and Tyson (Jennifer) King, of Bryan; 14 grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Harmony (Shawn) Beck, Elishah (Austin) Siegel, Baylee (Stefan) Risko, Sarah (Blake) Burkholder, Isaiah (Mandy) King, Sam (Aubree) Burrowes, Mason King, Logan King, Anniston King, Elizabeth King, Addilyn King, Allister King and Amelia King; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Kathy) King, of Fayette; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua Johnson; a sister, Mavis I. King; In-laws, Donald and Doris Stover and a nephew.

A memorial service celebrating Duane’s life will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the First Brethren Church, 13050 County Road C, Bryan, with Pastor Logan Feller officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.


Memorials are requested to the Bryan Alliance Church or Bryan Area Foundation.
