The Edgerton Board of Education met on April 20th in regular session via teleconference.

The meeting came mere hours after the proclamation from Governor DeWine closing all Ohio schools for the remainder of the year. The school during the meeting approved online Board of Education meetings, as well as approving a pass/fail resolution for grading during the remainder of the year.

The Board also approved the purchase of several Verizon Hotspots, along with the Edgerton Area Foundation, for several students without internet access. The Hotspots would cost the District $64.00 for start up and $39.00 a month for the remainder of the school year. Also, the Board passed a resolution to provide full pay to spring coaches and musical advisors.

The Board approved the resignation of Kevin Wolfe, High School Principal.  Kevin has accepted an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director position at Elmwood Schools. They also approved the following supplemental contracts, Jordan Bower and Brock Thiel as Assistant Varsity Football Coaches, Matt Ripke as Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, Travis Arkwright as Assistant Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach, Chase McClellan as Freshman Boys’ Basketball Coach, Tom Nye as Varsity Wrestling Coach, Rick Herman as Assistant Varsity Coach, Bryce Batt as Jr. High Wrestling Coach, Shanea Herman as Matt Maids Advisor, and Angella Burklo as Jr. High Science Club Advisor.

For students Prom and Graduation are all up in the air due to the school shutdown.  Seniors will be honored, and the District is currently figuring out how this will be accomplished.  The school year has been extended to September 30, 2020 in order to allow students enough time to finish classes and earn the credits needed for graduation.

With several positions available at the school for next years school year, the District will be interviewing candidates via Zoom. With the school being closed, administrators are trying to fix the issues with the Elementary 2nd  floor structural issues.  A resolution is trying to be reached with the builder for this to be taken care of.

Finally, the district has made a donation to the Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital of masks and gloves that were to be used by the nurse and maintenance staff with the school not resuming this year.

The next meeting of the Edgerton Board of Education will be Monday May 18th.
