After going undefeated in the regular season, Edgerton claimed the Williams County Academic Quiz League Tournament title on Friday, November 7 at Northwest State Community College.
Edgerton defeated runner-up Bryan twice to win the tournament. They prevailed 200-125, in the semifinal round and then 185-125, to claim the championship. Montpelier was third in the seven-team tournament.
The Bulldogs posted a perfect 6-0 record with 1655 total points in weekly dual quiz matches followed by Bryan (5-1, 1335), Edon (3-3, 805); Montpelier (3-3, 675); Stryker (3-3, 670); North Central (1-5, 410) and Hilltop (0-6, 395).
Ben Thompson of Edgerton was the individual weekly points leader, averaging 56.36 points per dual match.
He was followed by Skyler Crooks of Bryan (53.00); Ethan Fryman of Bryan (51.67); Nathan Wieland of Hilltop (44,00); Kaylee Mills of North Central (45.33); Eli Snyder of Edon (37.50); Preston Dean of Montpelier (35.00); Aaron Cheeseman of Stryker (31.67); Jon Cronin of Edgerton (30.00); Adilyn Spangler of Edgerton (30.00); Mason Hoke of Edon (30.00) and Tyce Fleurkens of Montpelier (30.00).
In the junior varsity tournament, Montpelier claimed the team quiz title followed by Edgerton and Stryker.
Montpelier went 2-0 in weekly dual matches and compiled 495 points. Edgerton went 1-1 and tallied 325 points. Stryker went 0-2 and finished with 235 points.
Top individual weekly points standings were Noah Miller of Montpelier (82.50); Nate Howell of Edgerton (40.00); Tyce Fleurkens of Montpelier (37.50); Breanna Cheeseman of Stryker (27.50); Lily Adams of Edgerton (22.50) and Brenna Creighton of Stryker (20.00).
The Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center coordinated the quiz tournament.
