Edgerton Village Council met in regular session on Wednesday, December 17, recognizing Shaun Murphy, who received his Fire 2 firefighter training certificate, and Lance Bowsher, who was attending his final council meeting.
Council members in attendance were Pam Wampler, Lance Bowsher, Chuck Wallace, Leslie VanAusdale, Sharon Blinzler, and Jason Gruver.
Murphy, who was one of the first junior firefighters to join the Edgerton Fire Department in January 2024, had previously passed his Fire 1 firefighter training before going to Wauseon two nights a week to earn his Fire 2 firefighter training certificate on nights after work.
That’s exactly what we had designed that program for, and he should be very proud of that,” said Edgerton Assistant Fire Chief Bob Adkins.
Bowsher, who had previously served as Edgerton mayor for 16 years and was on the village council for two separate terms, was honored for his 21 years of service to the village. He was presented with a small gift from Mayor Bob Day.
“Although this is my last council meeting, I’m not going to be around this table anymore,” said Bowsher.
“I’m not going anywhere if you need me for anything. I’m here. But again, I appreciate all the years of support.
“Good luck to all you folks, and just always stick together and remember every decision you make is for the village.”
Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles reminded residents of the village-wide large trash drop-off day scheduled for April 11, 2026. She added that it will be on social media as well as the village’s utility bills.
Fitzcharles reported that the village completed and went ahead and applied for the Lead Copper Triennial Monitoring Application. It enables the village to perform full lead copper testing.
Instead of annual testing, the village was approved for doing it every three years, with the next monitoring scheduled for September 2028.
Fiscal officer Denise Knecht reported that she had recently received an email regarding the Volunteer Fire Fighters Dependency Fund Board for annual board commitments.
The board will consist of Fire Chief Scott Blue, Assistant Fire Chief Bob Adkins, Bob Day, Denise Knecht, and Mike Krill. They will be approved at the January 7 council meeting.
Mayor Day reported on the recent park board meeting in which Kaylee Collins, who is an Eagle Scout, is working on her Eagle Scout project called Bark Park, a park that is designated for dogs. She will be attending the council meeting in January to present her project.
In other action, the council approved the following:
-An ordinance establishing permanent appropriations for current expenses and other expenditures during the year ending December 31, 2026.
-An ordinance establishing the salaries and wages for village employees for 2026.
-Approved and issued payment for invoice to August Mack for the Edgerton Metals Brownfield Remediation Project at a cost of $71,002.01.
-Approved Cybersecurity policy in compliance with House Bill No. 96.
-Approved 2026 committee assignments.
-Approved the employment status change request for Joe Albertson, who is currently working probationary part-time in the street department.
The meeting adjourned at 5:54 p.m.
