NEW VILLAGE PROGRAM … Mayor Bob Day took part in the first Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program. Working together with the Humane Society the cats that were trapped were then transported by Mayor Day, spayed or neutered, and then released back where they were trapped.

The Edgerton Village Council met on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 at 5:30 pm. Mayor Day began the meeting with The Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. Roll Call got underway with all Council members present, Sharon Blinzler, Jason Gruver, Lance Bowsher, Leslie VanAusdale, Chuck Wallace, Pam Wampler Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles, Fiscal Officer Denise Knecht, Fire Chief Scott Blue, Assistant Fire Chief Robert Adkins, Police Chief Ken Jacob, Rebecca Miller from the Bryan Area Christian Prayer Breakfast Committee, and a few community members. Administrative Assistant Amanda Knecht was absent.
Rebecca Miller came forward to talk about the 49th Annual Christian Prayer Breakfast. She expressed her goal of inviting all mayors and council members from the area to join the event.
The breakfast will be September 24th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan from 8:30-9:30 am followed by guest speaker Jack Brace from Bryan LifeWise Academy. The tickets for the event are $8.00.
Mayor Day was given a complimentary ticket to attend. Miller requested that Dawn Fitzcharles circulate the event information flyer for Edgerton residents who may wish to attend.
Next up was the approval of the meeting minutes from June,19th 2024. Lance Bowsher motioned to approve, seconded by Sharon Blinzler.
Mayor Day reminded everyone to check the details and times of the weekend homecoming festivities. Plenty of family-friendly entertainment is planned including the parade at 11 am on Saturday.
Mayor Day reports that the village started the Spay and Neuter Program also called (TNR) Trap, Neuter, Release.
The mayor accompanied the volunteers on the first trip to and from the Humane Society to see the process. The cats were released back into the village after surgery in the same area they were trapped which is vital to the program.
Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles gave her report about a potential project to repair streets in the village. The work will be contracted by M&M Asphalt and take approximately ten days. The project still has some contractional things to work out.
Fitzcharles contacted Republic Services and will contact the Post Office about the project. Fitzcharles stated that there should not be any major impacts on trash collection or mail delivery. Residents effected by this project will be notified before the work begins.
Fitzcharles said The BrownField Remediation Project is getting a topography survey and more groundwater sampling to further help present a plan to that project forward. The Water Tower Rehabilitation Project is at its one-year mark.
Both towers were inspected and in two weeks the results will be back on those inspections. Work is also continuing on the Water Treatment Plant Project; plans include upgrading the electrical and reusing the generator already in place.
A report from the Park Board Committee states the early planning stages for the new Miller Park Shelter House. Fitzcharles said that they talked to an architect about the potential design.
The original shelter house will need to be demolished which is planned after Edgerton school’s cross country season. Plans also include parking lot repairs as well as playground equipment upgrades.
Denise Knecht gave her fiscal report which consisted of credit card statements to be reviewed by the council. The 2022-2023 audit was complete, and Knechtreminded the council to check emails for a link to required fraud training.
Mayor Day welcomed Police Chief Ken Jacob to the council for discussion. He spoke on the progress of different trainings within the police department such as academy progress and firearms training.
There was a motion to approve the employment status change to remove Officer Kyle Esckilsen from the probationary period.

Jacob said that Esckilsen is a very dependable person, and he is happy to have him on the force. Council approved this motion.
The council also approved the revenue receipt from the Ohio Department of Development payment for the invoice to August Mack for the Edgerton Metals Brownfield Remediation Project. The council also approved OPWC agreement for the Main Lift Station Replacement.
The ast item on the agenda was Ordinance No. 1142 – an ordinance providing for a supplement to the 2024 annual appropriations. Fitzcharles and Fire Chief Scott Blue requested that the media wait for an official press release from the company providing the grant to the fire department.That information will be made public as soon as it is released. Ordinance 1142 was adopted and approved by the council.
For the council discussion, Wampler thanked the Edgerton Police and Fire Department for all of their hard work and how blessed she is to live in such a helpful and caring community.
The council meeting adjourned at 6:06 pm. The Planning Commission Meeting is Friday, July 19th, 2024 at 12:15 pm and the next village council meeting is August 7th at 5:30 pm.
