A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Tuesday morning as Maag’s Floors & Morr, Ltd. held the grand opening of its store located on 124 South Michigan Street in Edgerton.
Taking part in the ceremony were Edgerton Mayor Bob Day, Jeff Lyon, Danielle Tanner, Cheryl Karnes, and Arlene Parr, representing Main Street Edgerton, along with owner Clayton Maag, his wife, Rachel Maag, and daughter, Ella Maag.
Clayton Maag, who has been involved for over thirty years in installing floors and carpets, said that he wanted to contribute back to the community.
“We wanted to contribute to Edgerton in any way we can,” said Clayton Maag.
Having already been in the business for a long time, Maag admitted there will be a time when he’s not able to install floor covering, but he eventually wanted to start up the retail part of it.
“In order to get to that point, knowing what you’re doing, you need to have a few years underneath your belt of installing,” said Clayton Maag.
The store features numerous brand-name products in wood flooring, hardwood flooring, ceramic tile flooring, and carpet.
Brand names in wood flooring include Pentz Commercial Flooring Solutions, Triumph, Homecrest Flooring Collections (Cascade Ridge line), Johnson Premium Flooring, and Mannington on Main, along with Panaria, which features ceramic tile flooring. For carpet, Mohawk Carpets is among the most popular lines the business sells, along with Aladdin and Dreamweaver.
“I completely underestimated how long it takes to get them in, because we’re still waiting on some,” admitted Clayton Maag regarding the flooring samples already in the store.
“I know of people go – there is a lot of online stuff and a lot of people want to take the actual materials home. So it’s important to have all of this in here so people can take it home and put in their house.”
The owner stressed the importance of promoting local businesses in Edgerton. “Very important,” pointed out Clayton Maag. “You look at the history, this town used to be booming years ago.”
“It’s kind of sad to see people leave. It means a lot to me to get as many stores in this town as we can to help support and get back into this community.”
His wife, Rachel Maag, who is also the store manager, said it’s been exciting to see the support of the community.
“Even before we announced the grand opening, we had people already come in and make purchases and show support,” she said. “It’s very important to be visible to the community, and word of mouth is very important. I think a lot of people see the sign and check it out.”
One of the advantages, according to Rachel Maag, is the prime location of the newly opened store.
“It’s a great location and we’ve been very lucky to find this space,” she said. “With the road construction this summer, it’s kind of slowed people down and hung them up. I think we got a little bit more looks at our sign.”
The business is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday) and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Saturday).
