BOARD MEETING … Edon Board of Education members discuss agenda items.

The Edon Board of Education met Monday, November 11th at 5:30 pm for a regular Board meeting. All board members were present: Board President Cody Best, Board Vice President Jamie Schaffter, Patty Eicher, Ashley Reed, and David Wehrle.
Also in attendance were Superintendent Anthony Stevens, K-6 Principal Jennifer Ripke, 7-12 Principal Kayla Lapham, some Edon staff members, and a few community members.
After the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call there was recognition of visitors which none were present, so the board went into executive session from 5:05 pm until 6:15 pm.
At 6:15 pm the board resumed the meeting and approved the minutes and consent agenda from the October meeting and the October financial reports. The board also approved October donations totaling $16861.00 and Superintendent Stevens commented that the donations were greatly appreciated.
The board approved an October 2024 NWOESC substitute teacher and paraprofessional list. Also approved was the 2024-2025 interagency agreement which Stevens explained is for students that may require additional services like those offered by the board of DD and NWOESC. The board members approved the motion to consent agenda items.
For reports to the board high school principal Kayla Lapham mentioned some of the events in the high school. The sophomores are getting ready to take a six-week first aid course.
Juniors and seniors enjoyed the career day in Bryan and will also get to take practice ACTs at Defiance College.
For the recent football playoff game donations were given for tickets and Edon Dairy Treat and Black Swamp Equipment purchased the playoff shirts for students.
Elementary principal Jennifer Ripke talked about how fun Spirit Week was for Red Ribbon Week and that first and second graders would participate in social-emotional training (personal space) for about four weeks.
Ripke also said that second grade won the penny war and that fourth fifth and sixth graders would be decorating balloons for their parade.
Stevens said that enrollment numbers have declined compared to last year at this time. He also touched on the election that the earned income tax credit was not approved and that they would put the levy back up for voting in May.
Stevens also mentioned how great the Veterans Day Program was. Board President Cody Best said that every year people tell him how much they love the event, and some veterans mentioned they look forward to it.
For new business, the consideration for a Tri M student/club organization was brought up to the board. This club would be similar to the National Honor Society but focused on music.

Tenth through twelfth graders with an 83% GPA or higher would potentially be eligible. For old business also up for consideration is an ecology club. Both clubs would have dues and fundraising.
For action items, there is the approval of the five-year forecast for 2005-2029. The Benevolence Fund vendor agreement which was quarterly is now monthly.
To approve a memorandum of understanding MOU for the SRO Student Resource Officer contracted until June 30th, 2025. Lastly to approve the contract with AA Brown Auction Service LTD to offload equipment no longer needed by the district.
The board meeting adjourned at 6:50 pm. The next Edon Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 9th at 5:30 pm.
