AYERSVILLE – There were plenty of top performances among the area’s track and field competitors in the Division V district track meet held Thursday and Saturday, May 21-23, at Ayersville High School.
Edon was among the top finishers in the final boys team standings. The Bombers finished runner-up behind district champion Convoy Crestview, who claimed the title with 113 points and Edon finished with 57 points. Patrick Henry (56), Pettisville (55) and Montpelier (45) rounded out the top five in the boys standings.
Among the top individual performances in the boys meet came from Montpelier’s Braylon Hopper sweeping both the 100 (10.92) and 200 (21.97) meter dashes. He also anchored the Locos’ 800 relay of Carter Meek, Kian Foster, and Braxton Richmond to a fourth-place time of 1:35.91.
Also capturing individual district titles were Ty Leppelmeier of Edgerton in the discus (175-10), Cash Martin of North Central in the long jump (20-4 ¾), Logan Pontious of Montpelier in the shot put (55-3), and Alex Galvin of Pettisville in the 300 hurdles (40.31).
Alex Galvin also anchored the Blackbirds’ 3200 relay of Kyle Galvin, Gavin Knierim, and Tyler Wilburn to a district title with a time of 8:22.61. Alex Galvin would later lead off the district runner-up 1600 relay team consisting of Wilburn, Knierim, and Samuel Hartman (3:36.82).
Finishing as district runner-up were Hezekiah David of Edon in the long jump (20-3 ¾), Leppelmeier in the shot put (52-1 ½), and Edon’s 400 relay of Gauge Nester, Kendol Brigle, Eli Dickmann, and Carson Stamper with a time of 44.63 seconds.
Third place finishers were Dickmann in the 110 (15.51) and 300 (40.9) hurdles, Briggs Gallehue of Edon in the discus (163-4) and Talen Reinbolt of North Central in the pole vault (11-6).
Also getting their tickets punched for the Fostoria Regional and finished fourth were Edon’s Kendol Brigle in the long jump (19-7), Brady Trent in the shot put (51-2), Joseph Sparks in the pole vault (11-0), North Central’s Carter Eckley in the 3200 (10:08.50), Pettisville’s Kyle Galvin in the 1600 (4:28.86) and Hartman in the 300 hurdles (43.14) and Edgerton’s Caden Sinclair in the 200 (23.12).
In the girls standings, Antwerp edged Kalida, 99-93, to capture its first district title in school history. Montpelier was fifth (50), Edgerton was seventh (39), Pettisville was ninth (31), and Fayette was tenth (24.5) among the top ten teams.
Bria Friend of Montpelier and Addison Schang of Fayette, both of whom competed in their final district meet, came away with a pair of individual titles.
Friend won the long jump (16-10 ½) and 100-meter dash (12.76) while Schang swept the 1600 (5:35.97) and 3200 (11:57.13) meter runs.
Also claiming district gold was Kharleigh Kitchen of Montpelier in the 100 hurdles (16.34) and Jade Saul of Edgerton in the 800 (2:24.73).
Finishing district runner-up were Kitchen in the 300 hurdles (48.38), Friend in the 200 (26.41) and Addison Davis of Pettisville in the high jump (4-8). Edgerton’s 3200 relay of Saul, Katilyn Burke, Chloe Hazelton, and Kyli Hazelton were also runner-up with a time of 10:47.31.
Third place finishers were Addi Snyder of Edon in the discus (106-7), Emily Suydam of Hilltop in the 400 (1:01.20), Keren Maldonado of Pettisville in the 800 (2:30.37) and Madison Wilhelm of Edgerton in the 100 hurdles (16.94).
Stryker’s 3200 relay of Anna Donovan, Grace Froelich, Allie Ruffer, and Abby Oberlin also placed fourth with a time of 10:43.40.
Donovan also qualified with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter run (2:30.86). Edgerton’s 1600 relay of Clara Collins, Marta Garcia, Saul, and Wilhelm placed fourth with a time of 4:19.22.
The regional meet will take place Thursday and Saturday, May 28 and 30 at Fostoria High School. The top four individuals and relays will advance to the state meet in Columbus.
