Edon Rallies, Falls Short Against Hicksville

June 21, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(June 17th, 2015) – HICKSVILLE: Playing against a team coming off of a State Semi-Final appearance is a tough task, yet the Bombers of Edon were tasked with completing the task not once, but twice as they challenged Hicksville in ACME doubleheader action.

During game one, Edon fell behind early, but battled back to tie the Aces late in the contest.  Hicksville was able to creep back ahead in the bottom of the seventh, however, giving them the hard fought victory.

Edon fell to Hicksville in a defensive struggle, 4-3.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the second that Hicksville put themselves on the scoreboard, enjoying a 2 run inning to establish the first lead of the game.  Things remained quiet until the fifth inning, where the Aces added another run to their total to claim a 3-0 advantage.

The Bombers then mounted their counteroffensive.

The sixth inning belonged to Edon.  Driving in 3 runs in the top half of the frame, the Bomber boys pulled even with their talented hosts with just one final inning left to play.  Hicksville held them scoreless in the top of the seventh, however, leaving the door open for the Aces to squeak by with a 1 run win in the bottom half of the inning.

Landon Bloir gave the Edon boys a boost at the plate, accumulating a pair of hits with his bat.  Bloir hit for a double and a homerun against a stout Hicksville defense.  Teammates Preston Klingler and Tyler Seaman each added singles as well.

Jared Best assumed the loss for Edon, pitching for the game’s final 3 innings.  He gave up 2 runs from 3 hits in the defeat.  The starter for the Bombers, Hayden Runyan, held the mound for 4 innings, also allowing 2 runs off of 3 hits.  He also struck out 2 Hicksville batters, walking none.
