Elizabeth N. Vollmer (1931 – 2017)

Elizabeth “Betty” N. Vollmer, 85 years, of Sherwood, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in her home with her family at her bedside. Betty was born May 2, 1931 in Sherwood, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter J. and Ethel Maye (Ross) Miller. She was a 1949 graduate of Sherwood Delaware High School. She married Bob L. Vollmer on June 14, 1953 in Sherwood, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2014.

Betty was a bookkeeper for the former Decker Chevrolet. She was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Betty was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, where she played the organ for over 40 years. Betty enjoyed playing the organ and piano, playing cards with friends and family, and was known as a wonderful pie baker. She loved to spend time with her family and follow her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Surviving are three children, Linda (Tom) Switzer of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, Larry (June) Vollmer of Sherwood and Lois (Bruce) McCullough also of Sherwood; ten grandchildren, Jeff (Stephanie) Switzer of Charlotte, North Carolina, David (Jennifer) Switzer of Belmont, North Carolina, Amy (Charles)Thomas III of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, Justin Vollmer of Morton, Illinois, Hannah Vollmer and Jonah Vollmer both of Sherwood, Leanne (Kemp) Langhorne of Stuttgart, Germany, Beth (Joe) Meyer of Delphos, Ohio, Rachel McCullough of Monroe, North Carolina and Greg McCullough of Evansville, Indiana; nine great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Victoria Switzer, Isabella, Bishop, Boone and Baker Switzer, Reagan, Lillian and Charles “Hudson” Thomas IV, with another great-grandchild due to arrive in April.

Visitation for Elizabeth “Betty” N. Vollmer will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church. Funeral services for Betty will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood with Rev. Eric Moquin officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Betty Vollmer Memorial Fund, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, Ohio 43556 or to the Community Health Professionals Hospice, 6817 State Route 66 North, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
