Eugene N. Betz, age 93 of Sand Creek, MI, passed away Sunday morning, March 20, 2016 in Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH. He was born October 21, 1922 in Adrian, Michigan to Norman and Helen (Wild) Betz. Eugene was a farmer and worked for Tecumseh Products. He was a WWII Army Veteran having served as a Medic, participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was on Utah Beech during the Normandy invasion. Eugene was a member and permanent Deacon at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Lyons, Ohio and served in prison ministry. He also played trumpet in a Big Band in the 1940’s and instilled the love of music in his family.
His wife, Alice (Daniels) Betz preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include daughters and sons in law, Karlynn (Edward) Spreder of Erie, Colorado, Beverly (Paul) Bucar of North Canton, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel (Tina) Betz of Jenison, Michigan, Jeffrey (Theresa) Betz of Dorr, Michigan, Christopher (Heidi) Betz of Wauseon, Ohio; brother, Dwaine Betz of Oregon, Ohio; grandchildren, Nick, Marcea, Jordan, Jeremy, Cara, Nathanael, Brooke, Erin, Natalie, Monica, Jennifer, Julie and six great grandchildren Zipporah, Seneca, Sonja, Grace, Benjamin and Stewart. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Bays.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 23, 10:00 a.m. at St. Casper Catholic Church in Wauseon, Ohio with Bishop Daniel Thomas as celebrant. Burial will be in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday 9-10:00 a.m. in the Pope John XXIII room at the church.
