The Evergreen Local Board of Education met in regular session Sept. 12. There were 21 visitors and guests present.

Superintendent Jim Wyse acknowledged the OSBA 15-Year Local Board Service recognition for Julie Carter and Gary Pennington.

The Board conducted the following business:
*Approved the Auxiliary Services Grant for FY17 in the amount of $95,694.21 for benefit of Holy Trinity School, and to amend resources and modify appropriations accordingly.

*Approved the FY17 NBHP Employee Wellness Initiative Grant, 019-9036 in the amount of $2,560.00 and to amend resources and modify appropriations accordingly.

*Approved permanent appropriations for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017.

*Accepted the following donations:

$100 anonymous donation to the Evergreen Student Assistance Fund.

*Approved Ana Ford, for the 2016 – 2017 school year, as an English Language Learner (ELL) Tutor for ELL students. Tutoring lessons will take place during the school day, but will be scheduled outside of her current part-time employment. Hourly compensation will be logged at quarter-hour intervals, and determined by current placement on the Negotiated Agreement.

*Approved Debra Campbell for one hour per day as an aide for special needs students. This additional time will restore Campbell’s time from 2.0 to 3.0 hours per day, which was previously reduced by one hour on 7/18/2016 due to a restructuring of cafeteria services. The additional one-hour assignment is for the 2016 – 2017 school year, effective on 9/12/2016.

Approved the following two overnight trips for the Evergreen Girls Basketball team:

•A scrimmage to be held at Sycamore High School, Blue Ash, Ohio (near Cincinnati). The team plans to depar Nov. 4 and return the next day. Coaches Brittaney Cymbolin and Aaron Schmidt will be trip supervisors, with Mia Borojevich assisting as a chaperone.

•Games to be held in Berlin, Ohio and New London, Ohio. The team plans to depart Jan. 15, 2017 and return the next day. Coaches Brittaney Cymbolin and Aaron Schmidt will be trip supervisors, with Colleen Abbott, Mia Borojevich and Carrie Hensen assisting as chaperones.

The estimated cost of both trips is $1,750 and will be paid for with funds contributed from the Evergreen Girls Basketball Team as part of its fundraising efforts.

Approved an overnight weekend field trip for the Foreign Language Club.

Central Travel (from Sylvania, Ohio) is the travel agent arranging this trip to Chicago, predicted to involve approximately 30 students. Natalie Lambert and Ana Ford will be the trip supervisors/club advisors, with additional yet-to-be named parents traveling along as chaperones.

Highlights of the Chicago trip are: Navy Pier, Mexican Museum of Art, Little Mexico and Mexican Bakery & Shop. The students, parents and fundraisers will cover all costs associated with the overnight trip, estimated to be $315 per student.

Allowed Evergreen High School student athletes to participate in the 2016 – 2017 indoor track & field season using the Evergreen High School name.

Athletes will be under the supervision of Board-approved coaches or volunteers that have valid pupil activity certificates, and all participation will cease before the beginning of the outdoor track and field season.

If approved, the Evergreen Local School District will assume no cost or liability for indoor track participants and coaches/volunteers.

The Board of Education continued discussions on how best to provide a competition field for soccer.

The next regular board meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Loren Pennington Learning Center.
