The Fayette Board of Education held its organizational meeting on Monday, January 13th. During this meeting, Merissa Kessler was elected as president, with Katie Link serving as vice president.

The board approved the meeting schedule for 2025 and established a board service fund of $2,500. Additionally, they authorized the treasurer to borrow money if necessary, pay all bills as long as funds are available, and report on the bills paid each month to the Board.

The treasurer is also responsible for investing inactive funds, requesting advances on local taxes as they become available, setting workbook prices, and attending local and state meetings as needed.

The board authorized the superintendent to hire temporary personnel in emergency situations, with such employment to be presented for approval by the Board at the next regular meeting.

The superintendent will serve as the purchasing agent for the school district, approve meeting attendance, travel requests, and reimbursements as deemed appropriate, act as the sexual harassment grievance officer, make necessary updates to the district’s Crisis Plan, and attend local and state meetings as required.

The board appointed several committee roles and approved amenities for participants at meetings and other occasions. The organizational meeting was adjourned at 6:29 p.m., followed by the regular meeting.

The board then approved the financials, which included donations of $1,000 from Butler Mill Service for mini basketball and $5,000 from BP Lightsource Renewable Energy for a new kitchen oven.

Additionally, the board approved several personnel items, the NEOLA Policies for October 2024, and the renewal of Marilyn Opdycke as a board member for the Normal Memorial Library. They also reviewed the NwoESC Business Advisory Meeting notes from December 17, 2024.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
