FAYETTE BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Congratulates Archery Team On Advancing To National Competition

The Fayette Board of Education met March 20, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. Present were President Jason Kessler, members Mat Johnson, Jennifer Wagner, Kirk Keiser and Ryan Eberly.

Also present were Angela Belcher -Superintendent, Kelly Bentley -Treasurer, Olivia Selgo -Elementary Principal, Jon Molter -High School Principal and Jerry Schaffner -Technology Coordinator.

After approving the minutes of the February 20, 2023 meeting, the board heard more pros and cons from the public about the varsity girls basketball program.

The superintendent’s report, given by Angela Belcher, updated the board on dyslexia training and summer school planning. Summer school is being planned with Learning Friends and the Normal Memorial Library.

The treasurer’s report was given by Kelly Bentley, who detailed grant application particulars as well as Cat Cost filing for the 2022 fiscal year.

Jon Molter, the high school principal, reported that the band’s recent March performance was one of the best ones they have had in years.

The FFA will be holding their annual banquet on April 1st, and the student council Relay for Life is planned for May 19th.

The seniors are going on their senior trip this week, and a group of students was featured in the NWSCC Newsletter after going there to view their welding program.

Olivia Selgo, elementary school principal, expressed that grandparent’s day was a success, with over 200 in attendance and a successful student show.

Kindergarten and preschool enrollment for next year has been opened for registration, and the PTO will be hosting a family dance on March 25th.

Jerry Schaffner updated the board on the recent internet outages and promised that they are working to replace all UPS in the district.

The financial report for 2023 was accepted, including a $500 donation from Fulton County Cattle Feeders for FFA activities.

Students were approved to attend the State FFA convention May 4-5th, and staffing agreements were approved.

Before adjourning at 6:55 p.m., the board recognized the Archery State participants, congratulating Khail Beiber and Kaylee Harrington on their advancement to the National Archery Competition and commenting on the excellence of the Spring Band Concert.
