Kinderhook, MI– The body of 70-year-old Jane Hasselschwert from Defiance has been identified after her house caught fire Monday on the Michigan side of Lake George.

A call came in about the fire at approximately 5:14 a.m. Monday. Lakeland Fire Chief Dave Smith said the fire was under control around 7:50 a.m. but it wasn’t until almost 4 p.m. before all firefighters left the scene.

According to Sgt. Scott LeRoy with the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit, “There’s nothing suspicious about the fire.  We really can’t tell more just yet.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation however the house was basically a complete loss so finding a cause will be difficult as any evidence has likely been destroyed in the fire.

Lake George lies mostly in Indiana but crosses the border into Michigan.  The Fire Departments from Bronson MI and Fremont IN were both on scene to assist with the fire.
