The Florence Township trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, March 3 in the Township office.
In attendance were Mark Trausch, Paul Green, Florence Township Fire Chief Allyn Luce, Don Imm, Courtny Osborn and Williams County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Ben Baldwin.
Luce reported the fire department has received a State Fire Marshal’s grant of $49,995. The grant will be used for new turnout gear for firefighters.
The fire chief is still waiting on a State Fire Marshal’s Equipment grant, but he is unsure when it will be awarded. He also stated that the ISO meeting held on February 26 went well and he was thoroughly prepared for it.
Also, the fire trucks are being scheduled for new tires, with some already installed.
Baldwin gave a presentation to the trustees regarding the Flock Camera System, a safer community project.
His presentation encouraged townships to fund cameras within their jurisdictions that would capture license plate numbers. This would assist in capturing criminals within the county.
Baldwin added that if a township were to fund a camera, it would stay within that township. He will follow up in a month to see if the township has discussed it further.
Green reported that he has old fire truck tires in his shop. The trustees stated they will be taking donations for them and will reach out to different companies if they are interested. He also said the durapatcher is ready to go and the mower is on the tractor.
The trustees held a discussion concerning the 2016 snow plow/dump truck. Resolution 307 was passed to approve the purchase and leasing of the dump truck.
The trustees also discussed Green’s payroll. Because he spent a majority of his day inspecting the dump truck, he agreed to take a vacation day in lieu of pay for the time spent. The trustees approved his vacation day request.
Green also stated that he is pricing trucking companies to go get the dump truck. However, the trustees felt they could go and pick it up.
Osborn stated that all the leasing paperwork has been sent in for the dump truck and it should be ready for a wire transfer by the end of the week.
Trustees then approved the minutes from the last meeting, and the bills were presented and paid. The next meeting is Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. in the township hall.
