floyd-eltonFloyd Elton, Jr., age 98, met his Lord and Savior face to face, Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2016. He was born September 13, 1918 in Swancreek Township to Floyd, Sr. and Anna (Schwyn) Elton. Floyd graduated from Swanton High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air-Corps and was a decorated WWII Veteran. Following honorable discharge, he married his beloved wife Marjorie Mohr on April 1, 1944. She preceded him in death on November 4, 1971.

Floyd worked for Jeep and was also an accomplished carpenter and woodworker. He was a long-time member of Wilkins United Methodist Church where he served as Trustee, and was a member of the Swanton American Legion Post #479. He had a love for airplanes and flight which led him to obtain his pilot’s license. He also enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, and raising a variety of farm animals. He also received great satisfaction from reading letters mailed to him from his old service buddies.

Floyd is survived by his sons, Gary Elton, Arnold (Linda) Elton, Darrell (Joan) Elton and Leslie (Cindy) Elton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Kathleen Sperling and sisters-in-law, Norma Elton and Edna Mohr.

Besides his wife, Marjorie, Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Irene, John and Nancy.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, October 26th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, and will continue Thursday, October 27th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Noon) in the funeral home, where services will begin at Noon.

Interment, with Military Rites, will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.

The family would like to especially thank Floyd’s son, Gary, for the loving care he provided to dad the past year while living in Gary’s home.
