Fulton County Commissioners have given the go-ahead for wildlife control measures at the Pettisville wastewater treatment facility during their meeting held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

The decision follows reports that the facility’s lagoons have become a frequent gathering place for animals including Canada geese, muskrats, groundhogs, and woodchucks.

These animals can contribute to higher bacteria levels in the water, prompting the board to classify them as a nuisance.

Courtney Miller has been authorized to oversee their removal, with geese control expected to involve hunting under special permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Participants will need both the ODNR permit and county approval before taking part. An agreement approved by the commissioners allows Miller to maintain the grounds around the treatment facility, with access rights in place until December 2026.

The board also handled a variety of other business. They approved a $20,167 transfer from Fulton County Job and Family Services to Morrow County Job and Family Services to help fund programs for the remainder of the 2025 federal fiscal year.

Commissioners appointed Fulton County Economic Development Corporation executive director Jim Wyse to the Transportation Improvement District Board of Trustees.

They also authorized a payment of $4,936.40 to E.S. Wagner for bridge repair work and reviewed a closeout letter for the American Rescue Plan Act airport grant. The grant closed on August 7, with a final award amount of $32,000.
