Fulton Township Trustees met for their regular session on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the Fulton Township Hall.
Trustee Scott Gillen called the meeting to order, with Trustees Gillen and Donald Smith, Fiscal Officer Julie Szabo, and Gary Forrest in attendance. Szabo read the minutes from the previous meeting, which were approved following a motion by Gillen and a second by Smith.
Checks and payment vouchers were then presented and signed. Reports were also reviewed, approved, and signed off on following a motion by Gillen and a second by Smith.
Szabo updated the township’s credit card policy by adding language related to the township paying convenience fees on credit card and ACH transactions. Gillen signed the updated policy as chairman of the board.
The trustees also approved Szabo contacting Fire Chief Jeremy Gillen with the Delta Fire Department regarding what is needed to help with a grant for turnout gear through the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Firefighter Exposure to Environmental Elements Grant program.
The Fulton County Township Association is seeking one person from each township to help work at the pancake breakfast that will be held during the Threshers event, with proceeds benefiting the association. Smith volunteered and will contact the proper people.
Smith also presented a quote from Strait-Line Fencing for new fencing at Ai Cemetery. The estimate was listed at $39,637 for labor and materials, along with $1,700 for removal of the old fence. Smith made a motion to move forward with the project, with Gillen seconding the motion. The motion passed.
Szabo noted she would be completing cybersecurity training through the Ohio Township Association the following week.
She also reported that salt had been ordered and that an account had been set up through Ohio Buys for the road project through the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The trustees discussed an email from Britney Ward with Fulton County Health Center regarding what Fulton Township has passed in ordinances related to Issue 2 in Ohio, which allows commercial marijuana in the state. The trustees asked Szabo to respond that nothing is planned at this time.
The trustees also signed two transfer deeds involving cemetery plots. Gary Barlow is transferring his two plots to his sisters, Patricia Shidler and Nancy Self.
The trustees had previously approved moving Barlow’s two plots at Dutch Ridge Cemetery from No. 34, graves 5 and 6, to No. 35, graves 5 and 6, so the sisters could be next to their brother, Ron Barlow.
Mark and Sondra Hardy did not appear for their hearing regarding violations of Ohio Revised Code sections 505.87 and 505.871.
Szabo will contact the prosecuting attorney, while Gillen will contact Regional Planning regarding the next step in the process. Szabo also prepared an abatement order for signatures. The meeting adjourned following a motion by Gillen.
