DIVISION II SECTIONAL
Lima Shawnee 4, Wauseon 2
The Indians hopes in continuing on in the state tournament came to an abrupt end in their two-run loss to Shawnee. The Indians held Lima Shawnee to just two hits but gave up four runs in the fourth, a whole they could not dig out of. Brady Rupp took the loss going the distance giving up four runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Wauseon’s hits came with two from Josh Whitcomb driving in one run. JJ Kauffman, Rupp and Brooks Gype had the other three hits for Wauseon.
DIVISION IV SECTIONAL
Liberty Center 8, Montpelier 1
The tournament trail was a short one for the Locomotives as they were ousted by NWOAL opponent the Liberty Center Tigers. Montpelier finished with four hits during the tournament game. Kolden Uribes finished one for four at the plate with a single. Caleb Haines and Colin Rockey were one for three, Haines doubled while Rockey singled. Jimmy Kelley finished one for one with a single. Wyatt Beck pitched 4.1 innings giving up eight runs on five hits with one strikeout taking the loss. Gunnar Matson threw 2.2 innings giving up no runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Hicksville 12, North Central 2
The Eagles were eliminated from the sectional tournament being allowed just two hits. A trio of Aces pitchers combined for the two-hit domination. Josh Bailey pitched 3.1 innings for North Central facing 23 batters giving up 10 runs on seven hits. Colton Schmunk pitched 2.1 innings as he faced 12 batters giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Dakota Pitts’ single scored an Eagles run and Steven Williams added a single.
Toledo Christian 5, Pettisville 3
Toledo Christian scored all their runs in the first four innings and held the Blackbirds to two hits to eliminate them from the state tournament. Landon Roth took the loss for Pettisville pitching the complete game and giving up the five runs on seven hits while striking out three. Roth was one for three at the plate and Devin Beltz was one for two. The loss updates Pettisville’s overall record to 3-11. They are 3-6 in the Buckeye Border Conference.
Hilltop 4, Antwerp 3
The Cadets move on in tournament play with the one-run victory. Hilltop’s four hits came when they needed them most. After falling behind 2-1 after two innings, the Cadets outscored Antwerp 3-1 the rest of the way, with the three runs coming in the fifth inning. The four hits were chalked up by C. Haynes, Quinn Smith and J. Champion. Haynes and Champion had one RBI apiece. Smith lasted 6.2 innings to earn the win. He gave up two runs on nine hits and struck out two. Nic Schieber finished the .1 inning and allowed one run on no hits.
VARSITY SOFTBALL
Hilltop 17, Stryker 1
The Cadets ran away from Stryker in the fifth and sixth innings with a total of 12 runs. Bailey Funkhouser, Allie Schmitt, Karissa Crisenbery, Becca Miller, Ariana Brown and Aubrey Wyse had hits for the winners. Funkhouser and Crisenbery ended with three RBI each while Scmitt contributed to the final score with two. Crisenberry had a double and triple. Wyse was the winning pitcher giving up just one run on four hits and finished with 10 strikeouts. Stryker used a trio of pitchers with H. Dickerson, K. Tingley and J. Ramon. Dickerson threw five innings giving up 10 runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Tingley pitched .2 inning giving up five runs on no hits. Ramon threw .1 inning and gave up two runs on one hit.
